On Wednesday, September 4, tensions flared at the Ministry of Finance as members of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Brigade, a youth group associated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), clashed with security personnel.
The ORAL Brigade, primarily made up of the NDC’s youth wing, gathered at the Finance Ministry to protest what they describe as severe financial mismanagement by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration. The group, which has been increasingly vocal about the need for accountability, staged the protest to draw attention to what they perceive as gross financial misconduct.
One of the key issues highlighted by the protesters is the unresolved $34.9 million Ambulance Spare Parts deal. The ORAL Brigade claims that this transaction, initially intended to improve emergency medical services in the country, has instead raised serious concerns regarding the procurement process and the proper use of the allocated funds.
The group also expressed concerns over the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) involvement in a deal with Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML). Additionally, they are demanding a full accounting of the expenditures related to the 2023 All-African Games.
The ORAL Brigade’s protest underscores their demand for transparency and accountability from the government on these controversial financial matters.
