A leading member of the National Democratic Congress in the Ashanti region Joseph Yamin has said he will be exonerated following a shooting incident at the party’s office.

Members of a pro-NDC vigilante group – The Hawks – in a heated altercation resorted to gun battle leaving several persons injured and a member losing his life.

The police are on a manhunt for four suspects.

Yamin and another party stalwart Afrifa Yamoah-Ponkoh were questioned by the police Tuesday over the issue.

After honouring the police invitation, Yamin told the media he will be exonerated since his hands are clean.

“My surprise is why my name will be brought into this matter… I’m surprised somebody came in here to report. We are here to know the person and the reason,” Yamin said.

The government and former president John Mahama have condemned the incident and want the police to act swiftly in arresting the culprits.

The NDC will be going to congress February 23 to elect a flagbearer for the 2020 elections.
