The NDC-UK & Ireland Chapter held a well attended programme on Saturday, 25th January 2020. The night began with a successful meeting held by the Chapter Women’s Wing.
The programme which was chaired by the Chapter Chairman, Alhaji Alhassan Mbalba, took place at Tottteham in London, and was themed Rescue Mission 2020: “The Role of NDC-UK & Ireland Chapter”.
Chairman Alhaji Mbalba, in his speech, touched on the NDC-UK & Ireland Chapter’s readiness for Representation of the People’s Act (ROPAL) should the Electoral Commission decide to implement it.
The Chairman also made the point that while preparing for the possible implementation of ROPAL, the Chapter will be guided by the NDC’s position on its universal implementation-ROPAL Every Where or ROPAL as laid down in the ROPAL Act and late Justice Anthony Yeboah’s judgment on ROPAL in 2017 at an Accra High Court. decision.
Alhaji Mbalba also said the NDC-UK & Ireland Chapter is totally in support of NDC’s opposition to the Electoral Commission’s decision to compile a new Voters Register for the 2020 elections because the EC’s decision on the New Voters Register is unreasonable and irrational.
The UK & Ireland Chapter Secretary, Mr Mike Dzidula Kudiabor in his welcome address thanked the Chapter members and NDC sympathisers who had travelled from far and near to attend and participate in the programme. Mr Kudiabor expressed confidence in the UK & Ireland Chapter’s ability to play a very significant role in this year’s electioneering campaign. He swore-in the Chapter Organisational Sub-committee and the newly co-opted Deputy Chapter Women’s Organiser, Ms Rebecca Anoon.
The Chapter Communication Officer, Mr Simon Aworigo and Mr Kofi Kwakye, the immediate past Chapter Chairman in their speeches, spoke about the need for the Chapter to be more strategic in its communication in the lead up to the 2020 General elections.
Ms Mary Gardiner, the Chapter Women’s Organiser, and Freddy Kotogbor the Chapter Youth Organiser both laid out their plans to liaise with the Chapter Organiser so they can find a way of visiting the upcoming branches.
The Chapter Zongo Co-ordinator, Mr Issaka Sannie spoke on the need for the party to continue to work hard in the Zongo communities in order to win them back into the NDC fold as NPP are making some inroads there.
The Asokwa Constituency Women’s Organiser, Ms Phylis Manu who was one of the guest speakers, praised the Chapter leadership for organising the well attended and successful programme. She made the point that some Constituencies in her region have been quite challenging for the NDC but was delighted about the fact that the party is still working hard in the region and is likely to increase its votes at this year’s General elections.
Some members of the Chapter Fundraising Committee which was set up to raise funds in support of the party’s campaign made a presentation on the various donations that members could make in support of the party’s campaign. The members who made the presentation are Ms Janet Atiah, the chairmperson of the Committee, Mr Francis Acquah the Committee Vice Chair and Mr David Kwao the Committee’s Head of Finance.
