Newly Promoted Serie A side Lecce close to signing Afena Gyan from Roma

Newly Promoted Italian Serie A outfit U. S Lecce are close to signing Ghanaian wonder-kid Felix Afena Ohene-Gyan from AS Roma this summer, Dailymailgh.com understands.

According to reports in Italy, the Serie A club are keen on making the Ghanaian international their first summer in attack to boolster their striking options.

Afena Ohene-Gyan has been a revelation this season in the Italian top-flight after he was given senior debut by head coach Jose Mourinho after impressing at the youth level for Roma.

He scored five goals in six matches which prompted Mourinho to promote the youngster to the senior squad for the Red and Yellows outfits.

The 19-year-old Ghanaian versatile forward played 17 matches in the just ended season and scored two goals for Roma who finished sixth to book a place in next season’s UEFA Europa League.

He has four caps for Ghana and has registered a goal and assist to his name in Ghana colors after scoring against Madagascar in the opening game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Lecce have officially confirmed their interest in the player and has gone ahead to contact AS Roma to sign the youngster on a season long loan deal till June 2023.

With llimited game time on his first senior career campaign at Roma playing 17 games and Roma playing in the Europa League and possibly chasing Champions League football next season, Afena Ohene-Gyan’s move away from the club will guarantee him more minutes at Lecce before the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar later this year.

The deal is close and could be completed once the player returns from international duty with the Black Stars team who are currently in Japan to play in the Kirin Four Nations tournament starting this Friday.
