The Director of the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, has opted to voluntarily return a parcel of state land he allegedly acquired unlawfully.
This revelation was made by private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu during a telephone interview with Channel One News’ Hanson Agyemang.
Kpebu stated that Quaicoe personally contacted Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the chairman of the government’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), to inform him of his decision to relinquish the land.
The property in question is located in the agri-mechanisation lands area, directly opposite the El Wak Stadium in Accra.
Kpebu also raised concerns about the rezoning process that led to the allocation of the land, describing it as deeply flawed. He noted that the procedures bypassed critical checks and approvals.
“The director of the NIB, Mr. Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, called our chairman, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to inform him that he was willing to relinquish his parcel of land in the agri-mechanisation lands area, which is practically opposite the El Wak Stadium.
“It is government land, basically, but the Akufo-Addo administration illegally rezoned it. Checks at the Town and Country Planning show they didn’t follow the proper procedure. Parliament was not involved in the rezoning, so that rezoning itself is problematic. The beneficiaries of those lands have not properly acquired any land,” Kpebu explained.
ORAL was established on December 18, 2024, by President John Dramani Mahama to recover state properties and assets unlawfully acquired by individuals, particularly during previous administrations.
The five-member task force, chaired by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is focused on ensuring accountability and rebuilding public trust in the management of state assets.
