The government has enacted an immediate ban on the export of grains due to a severe dry spell impacting the Northern regions of the country.
Minister of Food and Agriculture Bryan Acheampong announced the ban during a press briefing in Accra on Monday, August 27. He explained that the measure is designed to ensure the availability of essential crops in the domestic market amidst the challenging weather conditions.
“To ensure the availability of critical crops like maize, rice, and soybeans for the domestic market, the government is implementing an immediate ban on their export until conditions improve,” Acheampong said.
He urged farmers with grain stocks to contact district directors, aggregators, or the crops directorate if they wish to sell their produce. “Any farmer with stock who is interested in selling should reach out to our district directors, district aggregators, or the Directorate of Crops at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. This is to help farmers avoid losses due to the export ban,” he added.
