The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned alleged threats of assault made by Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, a representative of the Movement for Change, directed at Jennifer Oforiwaa Queen, who serves as the party’s Deputy Director of Communications.
The incident reportedly occurred on United Television’s (UTV) Adekye Nsroma morning show, stirring public outcry and prompting calls for accountability.
In an official statement dated April 17 and signed by the party’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, the NPP expressed serious concern over the matter, emphasizing the need to protect the rights of women to engage freely in political discussions without facing threats or acts of violence.
“Ghana has made significant strides in driving women’s political participation and amplifying their voices in our national discourse. Threats of assault or actual assault on women for expressing their political views must not be tolerated,” the statement noted.
The NPP further urged media platforms, particularly UTV, to uphold a culture of respectful and democratic discourse. The party stressed the importance of maintaining vigilance to prevent behaviors that threaten the country’s democratic values and freedom of speech.
