NPP holds parliamentary primaries in Kumawu ahead of by-election

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set April 23, to hold its parliamentary elections in the vacant Kumawu constituency.

In a statement issued by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP says interested persons are to pick their nominations starting the 11th of April to the 14th of April 2023.

The National Executive Committee has also approved detailed rules and regulations to govern the conduct of the parliamentary primary election which will be made available to stakeholders in due course.

Parliament declared the Kumawu seat vacant following the death of former MP Philip Attah Basoah.

Speaker Alban Bagbin disclosed that the Electoral Commission has been officially informed about the MP’s demise and waiting for the conduct of a by-election within the next ninety days per Section 3 of the EC’s Amendment Act 1996 ACT 52.
