NPP Primaries: 17 aspirants disqualified, Nhyiaeso contest on hold

The New Patriotic Party has disqualified some 17 aspirants from contesting the January 27 parliamentary primaries. The decision was taken at a national executive council meeting on Wednesday.

General Secretary of the party Justin Frimpong Kodua who made this announcement revealed that elections in the Nhyiaeso Constituency in the Ashanti Region have also been put on hold, citing a legal dispute.

The party has also disqualified an aspirant in the Bimbilla constituency, resulting in the Minister of Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, running unopposed.

In Ayawaso West-Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan is also set to go unopposed after the rejection of the appeal by the party’s former constituency youth organizer, Owusu Amankwah.

The NPP’s parliamentary primaries will see around thirty other aspirants running unopposed in constituencies where the party already has representation.
