The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has ordered the immediate suspension of some party members who were seen performing rituals and cursing top executives in the party.

The aggrieved supporters, who were spotted in a video widely shared on social media, were seen cursing the sitting MPs, Constituency, and other national executives for disqualifying their preferred aspirant.

Some party members in Asante/Juaben, Kwabre East and Asokwa, had protested against the party’s decision to disqualify their preferred aspirant for sitting MPs to go uncontested.

Offinso NPP supporters invoking curses on the party leadership

In the case of Offinso South Constituency, party members marched through the streets of Offinso and moved to the River Offin, to perform rituals in the water body.

They were seen in a footage performing rituals with a live ram, while invoking curses on the sitting MP, Abdallah Bandah and other party executives with crate of eggs. They have since been summoned by the Offinso Traditional Council.

At a press conference held at the NPP Headquarters on Monday, June 8, 2020, General Secretary, John Boadu condemned the act describing the incident as “awkward”.

“The Party has observed, rather worryingly, the conduct of some members claiming to be invoking curses on the Party Leadership and in particular, on members of NEC on allegations that their preferred Candidates have been disqualified by NEC from contesting in the Primaries. We are completely appalled by such gross misconduct.”

“Accordingly, the Party is instructing the respective Constituency Executives in the Constituencies where this unfortunate incident happened, to immediately suspend all those involved in this awkward behavior while instituting appropriate disciplinary actions against them in line with Article 3 and 4 of the Party Constitution,” he added.

Mr John Boadu further also announced the suspension of Parliamentary Primaries in the Kwadaso, Gushiegu and the Dormaa Central Constituencies due to some disagreements.
