Renowned lawyer and GIMPA Law Faculty lecturer, John Darko, has officially submitted his nomination forms to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries in the Suame constituency. The primaries are scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2024.
The Suame constituency, currently represented by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, is undergoing a transition as the incumbent MP has declared that he will not seek re-election after serving four terms.
John Darko, who hails from Breman, a town within the Suame constituency, is considered a frontrunner in the primaries. He previously participated in the NPP’s 2016 parliamentary primaries in Suame, securing the third position. However, he was not permitted to contest in the lead-up to the 2020 elections, allowing the incumbent MP to run unopposed.
Armed with an LL.M. in energy, environmental, and natural resources from the University of Houston Law Centre, Texas, Darko boasts a strong legal background. His qualifications include a qualifying certificate in law (QCL) from the Ghana School of Law, an LLB from the University of Ghana, and a BA in political science.
Currently a partner at Darko, Keli-Delataa & Co, John Darko brings 13 years of experience as a natural resources and environmental lawyer. His expertise spans commercial, advisory, academic, and consultancy roles, contributing to the success of multimillion-dollar projects. He possesses an in-depth understanding of Ghana’s energy, land, and natural resources sector.
In addition to his legal career, John Darko has demonstrated leadership and integrity as a board member of six government and private organizations, covering sectors such as oil and gas, insurance, finance, and education. Notably, he is a board member of Ghana Gas Company Ltd.
The NPP officially opened nominations for parliamentary seats with sitting MPs on December 20, and the nomination process is set to conclude on December 25. John Darko promptly picked up his forms on December 21, completing and submitting them within 24 hours.
