Manaf Ibrahim, a former head of Political Affairs at the office of the Vice President has been elected parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the Asawase Constituency.

He polled 765 of the total votes defeating his main contender and Ashanti Regional Director of the Micro-Finance and Small Loans Center, Hajia Zainab Sallow.

She garnered 229 votes.

In what appeared to be a family race Manaf’s uncle Osman Yussif placed third with only nine votes.

The Asawase Constituency is the NDC’s safest seat in the ruling party’s stronghold.

Manaf Ibrahim in his victory speech pledged to unite the party to snatch the seat from Muntaka Mubarak, the sitting MP.

MCE suffers defeat

The elections, also held in the Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency saw businessman George Akom claiming victory with 205 votes.

His main contender and Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area Hamidu Sulemana polled 125 votes.

“This victory is a win for the NPP and with me as your candidate we shall emerge more stronger with a united front to snatch the seat from the NDC”, visibly happy Akom told the media.
