Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), praised the Ghanaian media for their essential role in national development and his political initiatives. He expressed that an NPP government would maintain a strong partnership with the media while ensuring media freedom if he is elected in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

During a discussion with journalists on Sunday, August 25, in Accra, Dr. Bawumia remarked, “The NPP views the media as a crucial partner in national development.” He highlighted the party’s historical commitment to media freedom, stating, “In our quest to expand the frontiers of democratic governance in Ghana, it was thus the NPP under former President J. A. Kufuor that repealed the criminal libel law for the media to function fully.”

He affirmed, “We’re partners with you, and the partnership I will continue to keep as the new leader of the NPP. We’re committed to deepening media freedom.”
