Offinso: 10 teachers involved in B.E.C.E. malpractice granted bail

The Police CID at Offinso in the Ashanti Region has taken over investigations into an alleged malpractice in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E.), the service have confirmed.

Nine male teachers were picked up when the exam begun on Monday, November 15, at the Dwamena Akenten examination center after they were caught by an official from the West African Examination Council (WAEC), allegedly solving questions in a nearby classroom to supply to candidates to copy, an incident report sighted by dailymailgh.com read.

The report said a tenth female suspect was also arrested at the Dentin Methodist School center when she was caught selling answer booklets to the candidates. All the suspects have since been cautioned and granted bail. Exhibits including pieces of papers and carbon sheets with writings suspected to be solved exams questions have been retrieved for further investigations.

Offinso Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Ben Wonkyi who provided an update on the development said: “The matter is still under investigations. They have been granted bail and this time we want the Ghana Education Service to come in for any further action”.

“We have also beefed up security at all the exam centers to prevent any eventuality”, he added.
