Okada rider gets eight-year jail time for kidnapping and sexual assault

A magistrate court at Tepa in the Ashanti Region has sentenced a commercial motorcyclist to eight years in jail for abducting a 14-year-old girl and repeatedly assaulting her sexually.

Samson Martey, 19, was convicted on his own plea of being guilty of defilement and abduction.

Prosecution told the court on May 15, that the convict and the victim are residents of Subriso near Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North District of the Ashanti Region.

Prosecution also indicated to the court that the victim is also a class six pupil at a local authority school in the rural community.

Court documents indicated that on Friday, May 8, 2020, at about 10:00am, the convict abducted the victim into his room and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her until the next evening.

On Monday, May 11, 2020, the suspect again abducted the victim and kept her in his room but was later caught by the victim’s father and a unit committee member after 48 hours of search.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police and was subsequently arraigned.

At the time of filing this report, the convict was still in police custody and was yet to be transferred to the prisons to begin his jail term.
