A youth group within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Okaikwei North Constituency has issued a strong warning to the party leadership, declaring they may withdraw their active support if Abdul-Rashid Issah is not appointed as the next Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.
Their concerns arise amidst rumors that someone from the neighboring Okaikwei Central Constituency may be considered for the position—an idea the group finds unacceptable.
At a press briefing held in Accra on Sunday, April 13, the group expressed frustration over what they described as ongoing neglect by the NDC, despite their unwavering commitment and contributions to the party’s success.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Abass Yusif Hussein, a Branch Executive and spokesperson, highlighted Abdul-Rashid Issah’s leadership qualities and his ability to unite the community.
“As an MCE, he will bring inclusiveness, harmony and participatory governance,” Hussein stated.
He went on to issue a cautionary message to the President and the party leadership: “Your H.E., we must be blunt, any attempts to bypass Abdul-Rashid, respectfully, in the selection of the next MCE for Okaikwei North Municipality will be met with deep disappointment, resistance and potential demoralisation amongst party faithful.”
The group made it clear that their demand reflects the broader sentiments of grassroots supporters in the area, urging the leadership to recognize their choice and act accordingly.
