One person has been confirmed while 14 others survived with varying degrees of injuries in a tragic accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway at Amanase-Budu on Friday (15 December).

The collision involved a VIP Bus (KK 5 -20) and a HOWO truck (GN 4971 -21) en route to Accra from Kumasi, a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service indicated.

The statement said a distress call at 4:54 am on December 15, 2023, prompted a rapid response from the Suhum Fire Station.

“Arriving promptly at 0505 am, the Fire Rescuers discovered a reported trapped passenger in the VIP Bus and 14 casualties with varying injuries. With precision and efficiency, the rescue team extricated and evacuated the lifeless body of the trapped passenger for the Police.

“They then rescued the 14 injured passengers and handed them over to the Suhum Ambulance Service, ensuring their swift transfer to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment”, the statement further indicated.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the high speed of the VIP bus driver resulted in the collision with the Howo truck making a right turn.

Both vehicles have since been towed to safety.
