One person has been killed following an attack between an armed gang and some herdsmen believed to be Fulanis in the Kintampo North suburb of Adumanu in the Bono East region.

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 19, 2019.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Sulemana Amadu. Two other victims, 20-year-old Alhassan Kassim and Iddrisu Adama both Fulani natives are said to be receiving treatment at the Kintampo Government Hospital.

The clashes follow a robbery incident recorded in the community in recent times. There are fears the attack on the herdsmen could be retaliation by the gun-wielding men who suspect they are part of the robbery syndicate.

One of the victims, Alhassan Kassim who survived the attack narrated that the gun-wielding men stopped them while they were on their motorbikes on the Kunsu-Kintampo road.

“The attackers asked us to stop. They pulled the deceased into a nearby bush and started beating him. We suddenly heard a gunshot and we rushed home to inform our leaders about what had happened”.

Kassim also told DailymailGH that the gang also buried the deceased at the scene and escaped with valuables including an unspecified amount of money.

The body of the deceased has since been exhumed and was buried according to Islamic tradition.

One person detained

It is gathered that one of the attackers has been arrested and detained by the Kintampo Divisional Police Command.

There is simmering tension in the area pointing to planned reprisal attacks.

National Chairman of the Fulani Brotherhood, Alhaji Saeed Kucho said he is in touch with the Municipal Security Council over the development.

“We are meeting our people next week Thursday. I have also been in touch with the police and the Municipal Chief Executive to see how the issue would be resolved”, Alhaji Kucho said.
