One person died in a head-on collision involving three vehicles at Ohene-Nkwanta near Konongo on the Kumasi-Accra highway.

The accident, which occurred around 7 am on Saturday (1 June), involved a diesel-loaded tanker truck, a Toyota Camry, and a VIP-branded bus.

The driver of the Toyota Camry died on the spot, while the other occupant, the tanker truck driver, and his assistant sustained injuries and were hospitalised.

The tanker truck, carrying 36,000 liters of diesel from Accra to Kumasi, was besieged by community members who forcefully opened its compartments and began siphoning the fuel despite police and military intervention.

Officers from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service faced challenges clearing the accident scene and rescuing trapped bodies from the completely damaged Toyota Camry.

The tanker truck and the wrecked Camry were towed to the Konongo Divisional Police Command.

A statement from the Ghana National Fire Service in the Ashanti Region said the deceased was handed over to the Police while the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
