Ahead of the April 25 New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries, I took it upon myself to gauge some selected constituencies, especially New Juaben South.
Before I go into the gravamen of the epistle, let me gist you a brief antecedent of that constituency.
New Juaben South was previously known as Koforidua Constituency which had a change in nomenclature in 2004 after the Electoral Commission (EC) created additional constituencies. It has produced notable MPs like David Sarpong Boateng of NDC circa 1993-1997, Lawyer Yaw Barimah from 1997 to 2009, Madam Beatrice Boateng (2009 to 2013).
Currently, the constituency is being occupied by Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah since 2013, making it his eighth year in 2020.
Back to the basis for this epistle; in just 14 days, Dr. Assibey Yeboah has become a loose talker, pontificating needlessly in a desperate attempt to reclaim the seat.
The primary point to note is when Assibey-Yeboah annoyed ordinary Ghanaians will his ill-thought commentary on the scholarship brouhaha. How can any matured politician say “GETfund scholarship: Are the needy more ‘important’ than politicians”?
Is he aware that such childish comments can take the NPP back to opposition when he knows how delicate that issue was? Is he doing this for the President to lose the 2020 or what?
Again, he was the same guy who said “Weak cedi is a tourist attraction, it’s not good having strong currency” wow mamamiaaa, a PhD holder making this kind of loose argument, if this had been said by Hassan Ayariga, Akua Donkor, Hanna Bissiw, they would have ridiculed them. Is this the smart Assibey-Yeboah people boast of? If this is the same man then his intellect has been overpriced.
His latest loose talk which I will call his ‘Independence Message’ to the constituency was not only ridiculous but misguided. He just misfired. “Ghana’s Parliament will collapse without me,” that was what Assibey-Yeboah spewed after going through vetting. Really? Who does he think he is?
Well, I can forgive him because he was obviously on some sort of substance when he made this nonsense of a statement.
JH Mensah, JH Owusu Acheampong, Kwadwo Baah Wiredu, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Yaw Barima, Kwabena Bartels, Hawa Yakubu, Kenneth Dzirasah, Doe Adjaho, Papa Owusu Ankomah will not even make such loose statement.
You are even struggling to take on first time MPs like John Jinapor, Isaac Adongo and you think you are the Gangalia of Parliament. Excuse me, Assibey Yeboah, stop the self-aggrandisement, you make sense when you are quiet than speak.
