In February, this year news broke out that some members of the pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) militia group, Kandahar boys had allegedly forced their way into the premises of the Northern Development Authority (NDA) and taken away 400 motorised tricycles without approval.
The pro-NPP militia group Kandahar Boys later publicly confessed that they had appropriated the tricycles belonging to the NDA. They made their confession to Joy FM’s Northern Regional correspondent, llliasu Tanko.
Ten forty-foot containers each filled with 40 tricycles shockingly went missing in October 2019 triggering police investigation amidst public uproar.
The containers were stored in the yard of NDA which is a popular spot in Tamale. Following the disappearance, the then acting Chief Executive Officer of the NDA, Dr Alhaji Abdel-Majeed Haroun was sacked for reasons that were not stated in his dismissal letter.
The sacked NDA boss who is a subject of criminal investigations began singing like a canary bird and reported the matter to the police command in the Northern Region to help locate and retrieve the missing tricycles.
Following these developments, the Northern Regional Minister Salifu Sa-eed was accused of masterminding the disappearance of the tricycles. However, Mr Sa-eed vehemently denied his involvement in a statement that was widely circulated on online news media portals.
The Kandahar Boys, however, insisted that they acted on the orders of the top hierarchy of NPP officials in government. This follows an alarm raised by occupants of a nearby facility where the containers were discovered.
Mohammed Awal Babio Sumana, who runs an NGO situated in the premises told Joy FM that: “I know that 10 containers are sited here but as to how many tricycles were stored in each container I don’t know”.
He explained that his accountant asked one of the individuals who transported the containers to the premises to disclose the content of the container. It was then that it emerged that the reported missing tricycles could be inside the 10 containers being kept at the location.
Nana Akufo-Addo’s boys are shouting “4 more for Nana” because they want to steal more tricycles and steal more.
