Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, has released a 25-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan. Among the notable returns is key midfielder and captain Thomas Teye Partey, who had missed the previous qualifiers against Angola and Niger due to illness.
In an exciting addition, left-back Isaac Afful from FC Samartex has been called up for his second time. Afful has impressed recently with standout performances in both the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds and the ongoing Premier League.
Making their debut in the squad are Asante Kotoko’s midfielder Razak Simpson and Nations FC defender Razak Simpson, who have earned their first call-ups. Additionally, Olympique Lyon’s forward Ernest Nuamah and Atalanta’s midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana will also join the team for these decisive matches.
The Black Stars are set to resume their qualifying campaign later this month, taking on Angola and Niger in the final rounds. They aim to secure a spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco. The team will first travel to Luanda to face Angola on November 15, then return home for a match against Niger Republic on November 18.
For Ghana to qualify, they not only need to win both matches, but they must also hope Sudan loses to both Niger and Angola. The Black Stars will be battling to keep their AFCON dreams alive against the odds.
