New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh on Sunday (December 18) handed over an astroturf to the people of Dichemso, a community in the Manhyia South Constituency in Kumasi.
Named ‘Otumfuo Park’, it is the third ultra-modern synthetic pitch to be installed in the Constituency after a similar project was constructed at Ash-Town’s Abys Park and Konadu Yiadom electoral areas.
For constituents like Kwame such old parks have been transformed into standard fields expected to change the face of football in the Constituency.
“It is a great achievement”, Kwame who joined other residents to commission the pitch told dailymailgh.com. “We are lucky to have this man as our MP. He is committed to improving the lives of his people at all times”.

The project was funded by Wembley Sports Construction Limited and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). It has a 500-seat capacity, dressing and washrooms, and a VIP lounge, among others.
Addressing a charged gathering to officially hand over the project to the community, Dr Matthew who is also the country’s Energy Minister said the gesture was “part of my commitment to the nurturing of football talents in the constituency.”
“I urged the people of Dichemso and the entire constituents of Manhyia South to ensure the effective maintenance of the facility for generations yet unborn to benefit from same”, NAPO, as he is popularly called said as he thanked the GETFund for the support as well as all others for the construction of this important project.
He disclosed that work is progressing steadily at KO electoral area where another astroturf is being built.
Sports Minister
Ghana’s Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif was also at the event. The MP for Yagaba-Kubori in the North East Region urged his colleague MPs to emulate the passion the Energy Minister and MP for Manhyia South has for sports development.
“I am happy to say that Dr Napo is a good inspiration to some of us and I urge my colleagues to emulate his passion and invest in sports infrastructure so that we can use the same to develop our constituencies and the country as a whole’’, the Minister stated.
