The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has implored the Ghana Police Service to ensure a peaceful 2024 general election.

Otumfuo who hosted members of the Police Management Board at the Manhyia Palace on Friday (12 January) encouraged the security chiefs to maintain visibility operations and specifically charged the IGP to take proactive measures for an incident-free poll.

Expressing concern about the perceived intensity surrounding the upcoming elections, Otumfuo stated, “We have had numerous elections, but this looks very much heated. I am encouraging you to ensure a peaceful election in December.”

“Let us continue to enjoy the peace we have as a country,” the Asante Monarch stressed.

Commending the IGP for an incident-free Yuletide, Otumfuo said, “This is what we should always have as a country. I am encouraging you and management to continue with your patrol project.”

In response, IGP Dr George Akuffo Dampare assured stakeholders that the police would sustain the visibility plan in the Ashanti Region and across the country.

“The police force remains committed to working collaboratively to ensure a secure and peaceful environment for citizens. Our work during the Yuletide will still be maintained while we continue to work towards the 2024 elections”, Dampare assured.

The Police Management Board also engaged with members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) during the visit, aiming to understand and address their concerns to enhance overall security measures.
