More than 150 houses in Gomoa Mampong have been submerged after a contractor working on the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway blocked the main bridge serving the River Ayensu in the Gomoa East District.

The River Ayensu, one of the largest rivers in the Central Region, originates from the Eastern Region and crosses the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway at Gomoa Okyereko before flowing into the sea. The contractor, tasked with improving the road, blocked the main bridge to construct a modern bridge that can better handle the river’s water volume.

In an interview with Adom News, some residents reported that the river unexpectedly flooded the community around 2:30 pm today. As a result, the majority of houses have been inundated, and the main road is now at risk.

Gomoa East District NADMO Director Robert Hackman revealed that Gomoa Mampong, Gomoa Okyereko, and five other communities are currently in danger. He called on authorities to provide immediate assistance.
