Failed Independent Parliamentary candidate, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, has officially rejoined the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following a reconciliation with the party’s Ashanti Regional Council of Elders on Monday (5 August), a statement has confirmed.

Mr. Owusu Aduomi, a former three-time NPP Member of Parliament for the Ejisu constituency, had earlier contested the Ejisu by-election as an Independent Candidate, after expressing dissatisfaction with the party’s handling of the delegates’ list.

His decision to run independently came after losing the by-election on Tuesday (30 April) to Francis Kwabena Boateng, a private legal practitioner.

The by-election was necessitated by the untimely passing of the former MP, John Kumah. Owusu Aduomi’s decision to go independent sparked controversy within the NPP, with some members accusing him of betraying the party and suggesting he had defected to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

However, in a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders on Tuesday, August 6, Mr. Aduomi expressed his commitment to the NPP, promising to bring his supporters back into the party’s fold.

“Engineer Owusu Aduomi respectfully responded to overtures made by the Council of Elders and honoured an invitation by the Council aimed at getting him back into the fold. In a meeting characterized by frank and open discussions of issues that have happened in the past, Owusu Aduomi announced to the delight of the members of the Council of Elders that he had put everything behind him and went on to announce his return to the party unconditionally,” the statement read.

Mr. Aduomi further emphasized his deep-rooted connection to the NPP, stating that the party “runs through the veins of his blood.” He also pledged to encourage his supporters to rejoin the party, signalling a renewed sense of unity.

Stephen Ntim, the National Chairman of the NPP, had earlier pledged to reconcile Mr. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi with the party following the by-election.
