The USA branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party on Sunday (2 April) took its philanthropic work to the Harvesters Evangelical Church and the Kumasi Children’s Home.

The youth wing reached out to these institutions to support them in celebrating this year’s Palm Sunday which is marked by Christians around the world to remember the joyful entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.

At the Harvesters Evangelical Church at Bantama, about 50 widows and a widower who fellowship at the church received items such as 5 kilos of rice, sardines, cooking oil and soap.

The symbolic presentation was made on behalf of the delegation by the Deputy Secretary of the Branch Mr Emmanuel Mensah, Deputy MD of Precious Mineral Marketing Company, and a former NPP-USA Communications Director, Mrs Josephine Agyekum Wallace.

The beneficiaries showered the team with blessings and thanked them for the kind gesture.

It was also a moment of feasting and merry-making when the team made a trip to the Kumasi Children’s Home to climax the event. The team brought hope to the inmates as various speakers took turns to counsel them.

They also presented an undisclosed amount to the management of the facility to support its work. Manageress of the Kumasi Children’s Home Mabel Amponsah praised the NPP youth wing for the donation and urged other institutions and individuals to emulate the same.

This is not the first time the NPP youth wing has made these donations to the handicapped and the vulnerable in society.

Branch Youth Organizer Danny Opoku Antwi said: “As part of our social responsibility we embark on such trips to identify the vulnerable groups in society and reach out to them. Such donations are done annually and we will continue to contribute to our widow’s mite as we continue to make the world a fairer place to live”.

Present at the occasion were MP for Manhyia North Akwasi Konadu, Ashanti Regional Director at the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Frank Duodu, Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer Raphael Sarfo Patrick and others.
