Parliament approves Environmental Protection Bill

Ghana’s Parliament has taken a crucial step towards environmental preservation by passing the Environmental Protection Bill, a groundbreaking piece of legislation aimed at addressing critical environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development nationwide.

 

After months of deliberation, the bill garnered strong support from lawmakers on both sides of the political divide. Members of Parliament highlighted the importance of safeguarding Ghana’s natural resources and ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.

 

During the parliamentary session on Thursday, January 2, 2nd Deputy Speaker Andrew Asiamah officially announced, “Hon. members, the Environmental Protection Bill 2024 is now read for the third time and passed.”

 

The bill includes provisions for stricter regulations on industrial emissions, waste management, and deforestation. It also outlines measures to promote the use of renewable energy and encourage eco-friendly practices among both businesses and individuals.
