Former Deputy Chieftaincy Minister Paul Essien has been re-elected parliamentary candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Jomoro Constituency of the Western Region.
He polled 496 of the total votes beating his main contender Hopeson Kwaw Paul who secured 289 votes.
Ismael Evonla Whajah placed third with 270 votes.
Security was tightened at the Ekpu Community Park on Saturday (16 November) where some 1,057 delegates gathered to cast their ballots. Two of the ballot papers were rejected during sorting and counting.
Paul Essien was a member of the 7th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana representing the Jomoro Constituency. He won the bid to represent the constituency after winning in the 2016 parliamentary and presidential elections.
He however lost the seat to NDC’s Dorcas Affo-Toffey during the 2020 polls. Essien now has a heavy task to unite party faithful to recapture the seat from the opposition party.
