Dr. Vishnu Nene Limon Abayateye, a member of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), has formally petitioned for the removal of the Association’s President, Dr. Frank Serebour. This petition comes in response to Dr. Serebour’s directive instructing GMA members to continue working despite a nationwide strike called by Organised Labour, set for Thursday, October 10, 2024.
In the petition, dated October 8 and addressed to the General Secretary of the GMA, Dr. Abayateye accused Dr. Serebour of acting without consulting the National Executive Council or the General Assembly. He claimed Dr. Serebour’s decision to issue the statement independently has damaged the Association’s reputation.
According to Dr. Abayateye, this unilateral action has made the GMA appear inconsistent, especially in light of its past stance on illegal mining. He believes this has caused confusion among the public about the Association’s position on national issues.
Dr. Abayateye also announced his intention to call for Dr. Serebour’s removal at the GMA’s annual general assembly in Ho, set for November 3 to 10, 2024. He plans to seek the required two-thirds majority vote from the general assembly to pass the motion.
