An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced 26-year-old plumber and hairstylist, Philip Spain Narh, to 12 years in prison for sexually extorting and blackmailing a 19-year-old Senior High School graduate.
Narh was convicted on seven counts, including:
Sexual extortion
Non-consensual sharing of intimate images
Publication or sale of obscene material
Unlawful possession of narcotic drugs
Despite pleading not guilty, he was found guilty after a full trial.
How It Started: A Deceptive Online Encounter
According to the prosecution, the victim (name withheld), a 19-year-old SHS graduate from Kpone, near Tema, was introduced to Narh through a girl named Delphine, whom she met on Telegram.
Narh, using the fake identity “Sharon Stuttgart Woods,” pretended to be a female German-American financial expert who had come to Ghana for business. He claimed to be a philanthropist dedicated to helping Black girls achieve their dreams, and offered to assist the victim in studying abroad at MIT, Massachusetts.
Excited by the opportunity, the victim revealed her interest in IT and web development and her dream of building Artificial Intelligence systems.
The Trap: Manipulation and Sexual Abuse
In December 2020, Narh told the victim that “she” had arrived in Ghana and arranged a meeting at a hotel in Dodowa. However, on December 8, 2020, just before their meeting, Narh sent a message saying “she” had an urgent meeting and instructed the victim to wait at Bawaleshie at the home of “her driver’s brother.”
Unknown to the victim, this so-called driver’s brother was Narh himself.
When she arrived, Narh forced her into a sexual act, claiming it was a “test of loyalty” before she could get a scholarship to MIT. He recorded the act without her knowledge.
Feeling ashamed and betrayed, the victim deleted her Telegram account and tried to cut ties with Narh. However, he reached out again under a new name, “Valquez Rodeo De Mel,” claiming that he had been paid to leak her video but was willing to help her.
Blackmail and Repeated Assaults
Narh demanded oral and anal sex twice a month, threatening to release the sex video if she refused. On January 5, 2021, he published her nude photos and sex video on a Telegram porn channel called “ADULT HOUSE” and sent her the link.
Terrified and suicidal, the victim confided in her best friend, who advised her to comply with Narh’s demands to prevent further exposure.
On January 12, 2021, she went to plead with Narh to convince “Stuttgart Woods” to delete the videos, but he became violent, raped her again, and recorded the act to continue his blackmail scheme.
Breaking Free: A Cry for Help
Constantly battling suicidal thoughts, the victim finally opened up to her coding tutor, who noticed her distress and encouraged her to report the case to the police.
Narh was arrested, and during a search of his residence, officers discovered:
Two mobile phones containing the victim’s nude photos and sex videos.
Dried powdery and liquid substances suspected to be narcotics.
Lab tests confirmed that the seized substances were cannabis sativa, with:
95.13g of powdered cannabis
73.37g of another cannabis substance
1.10g of cannabis seeds
Court Verdict
After the trial, Narh was found guilty and sentenced to 12 years in prison.
