A police officer was shot and killed by unidentified gunmen at Pramkese, a community on the Akyim-Takyiman motor road in the Eastern region Monday night, a police wireless statement has confirmed.
The deceased has been named as Sargent Moses Tettey Nartey, the report sighted by dailymailgh.com read.
Moses and two other junior officers were responding to a distress call as gunmen laid siege robbing unsuspecting passengers on sight.
The report said the team hired a taxi cab and proceeded to the scene after they discovered there wasn’t a Police vehicle at the station.
Attack
On reaching a section of the road at Ada Kwasi Junction, the team spotted a parked mini bus at about 100 meters away from the scene compelling them to reduce their speed.
Suddenly, the unidentified gunmen wielding AK 47 rifle emerged from the bush onto the road, flashed a torch light onto the occupants of the taxi cab and started firing indiscriminately.
“Sgt Moses Tetteh Nartey sustained two gunshot wound at his chest and one on his head”, the report said.
The team later retreated and rushed the injured to the Pramkese Health Center but the officer was confirmed dead by medics at the scene.
Images widely shared online show another officer who survived sustained with gunshot wounds is also receiving treatment.
Fresh attacks
The Ghana Police Service has been recording series of attacks on their personnel sparking safety and security concerns among the rank and file of the Service.
Earlier last month an officer was gunned down by unidentified gang in the Ashanti Region during a billion van robbery incident in broad daylight.
One suspect was later shot and killed after the armed gang were later traced at a guest house in Accra.
