Hopeson Adorye, a leading member of the Movement for Change (MFC), has been invited for questioning.
He is being investigated by the police following his controversial claim of detonating dynamites in the Volta Region during the 2016 general elections.
Adorye made this assertion during a radio interview in Accra, which has since gone viral.
He stated that the dynamite was used to aid the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in securing victory in the 2016 elections.
Currently in custody, Adorye is expected to appear before the court on Thursday, according to sources.
The Movement for Change is however questioning the police’s action saying it is politically motivated.
Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, another leading member of MFC who was at the police station said Adorye was yet to be released pending “an instruction from above”.
“And so you can infer that this is politically motivated. For the record Hopeson has not been charged. The police say they are investigating a case of publication of falsehood but this won’t wash”, Asamoah told Citi TV during a live interview Wednesday night.
