Police at Effiduase say they will invite Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie over alleged assault on his District Chief Executive (DCE), Ms Mary Boatemaa Marfo.
A police statement sighted by Dailymailgh confirmed that the DCE had made a formal complaint about the development.
She accused the New Patriotic Party legislator of physically assaulting her about 9:30 am Friday, at the District Assembly in the presence of witness— a development police say they are investigating.
Investigators say Ms Marfo, who doubles as the Chairman of the District Security Council, has since been issued a medical form as part of investigations.
It wasn’t me
The Member of Parliament has dismissed such accusations.
The incident, according to reports happened hours before the arrival of President Akufo-Addo—who was wrapping up a three-day tour at Effiduase in the Ashanti Region.
But the legislator has denied the allegations adding that the issue was planned to “ostensibly to divert the attention of the President from the many issues confronting the DCE in the district”.
“The said issue was between her driver and a party agent who who is my ardent supporter”, he clarified.
“I haven’t raised my hand on anyone and I don’t intend on any day to raise a hand anyone not to talk of her”, parts of the statement released on Friday evening read.
The lawmaker had also indicated to the police that he would honour the invitation to assist in investigations.
