Ghana’s power supply has been partially restored after an overnight blackout hit much of the country, officials say.
Major cities and towns in the 16 regions were affected by the power cut. Some citizens took to social media to vent their frustrations.
The cause of the outage is not yet known.
In the Greater Accra Region, many areas including Dansoman, Nima, Teshie reported of the outage.
In the Northern Region, there was a total blackout from around 9pm on Monday until about 4.30am when power was restored only to go off again a few minutes later.
The 12 Municipal and District Assemblies in the Bono Region also experienced the blackout, forcing many residents to spend the night in darkness.
In the Ashanti Region, parts of the capital city were heavily affected too.
A terse statement from the Electricity Company of Ghana said power transmitter GRIDCo, has “restored power to Konongo and Obuasi areas. In Kumasi, however, we are awaiting instructions from GRIDCo to pick the loads.”
