Ghana’s road to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations hit a roadblock as they settled for a goalless draw against Namibia in their final friendly match at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Monday.

The disappointing outcome left fans questioning the team’s potential for a strong tournament performance. Despite being one of the lower-ranked teams heading to AFCON, Namibia managed to thwart the four-time African champions on their home turf, limiting the Black Stars’ ability to create clear-cut opportunities.

Under coach Chris Hughton, Ghana has struggled, securing just one win in five games, with defeats against Mexico, USA, and Comoros, and a lone victory against Madagascar.

The 0-0 draw with Namibia raised concerns, marking the fifth occasion the team failed to score under Hughton’s guidance.

The first half was lackluster, and although the Black Stars improved marginally in the second half, they couldn’t assert dominance.

Despite positive changes made by Hughton, Namibia held on for the draw, leaving Ghanaians unimpressed. With the team yet to find its rhythm, apprehensions loom as they approach their Group B opener against Cape Verde on January 14.

The challenge intensifies as Ghana faces seven-time African champions Egypt in the group stage and concludes against Mozambique.
