Pregnant policewoman battles for life as fire ravages her apartment

A pregnant policewoman is seeking medical attention at a health facility after a violent fire tore through her Kwadaso Estate apartment in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital.

The incident which occurred at about 3:00 am Friday, destroyed all the personal belongings of Cpl Sarah Osei, officials said.

Firefighters from the Kumasi Metropolitan station, spent several hours putting out the flame which had also destroyed the rooms of other tenants.

A double door fridge, a queen-size mattress and bed, a laptop, a 40-inch TV set, a sofa, a standing and a ceiling fan, belonging to the officer, were all destroyed in the blaze.

Other items which got burnt included seven sets of police uniforms, five pair of boots, raincoats, five line yards, a pair of handcuffs, jewels, cheque books, ID cards and an unspecified amount of cash.

Michael Opoku Marfo and Emmanuel Friar, who are also tenants lost all their personal belongings worth GHS 50,000.

Though the cause of the fire is yet to be established, firefighters had to pull down the apartment that housed the officer in an attempt to battle the blaze.

It is gathered that the victims would have to seek shelter elsewhere as the building has now become a death trap.

Investigations have begun.
