President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended heartfelt condolences to traders affected by the devastating fire that engulfed the Kantamanto Market in the Greater Accra Region.
The fire, which occurred in the early hours of January 2, 2025, destroyed countless stalls and shops, leaving many traders grappling with significant losses.
Speaking during his final State of the Nation Address in Parliament on January 3, 2025, the President acknowledged the tragedy’s severe impact on the livelihoods of hardworking traders and assured them of government support to aid their recovery.
“I am deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Kantamanto Market. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected, and I extend heartfelt sympathies to the hardworking traders who have lost their goods and investments,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
He urged all Ghanaians to rally together in solidarity to support the affected traders during this challenging period.
The government has also committed to investigating the fire’s cause and implementing measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Once a bustling hub for trade, the Kantamanto Market was reduced to ashes in mere hours. The aftermath revealed a scene of heartbreak and despair as traders, many of whom had invested their life savings into their businesses, combed through the charred remains of their stalls in hopes of recovering anything of value.
The tragedy has left a lasting impact on the affected traders and the broader community, sparking calls for swift action and support to rebuild the once-thriving marketplace.
