President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to deliver his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025. This address, mandated by Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, will serve as his last official account of the country’s progress before the end of his tenure.
The presentation will take place ahead of the dissolution of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic, scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2025. On the same day, the newly constituted 9th Parliament will hold its inaugural sitting at 11:00 PM to elect a Speaker and two Deputy Speakers.
According to a statement from the Parliamentary Service, “The Speaker-elect and the newly elected Members of Parliament will take their oaths at midnight,” signaling the formal commencement of the next legislative session.
To ensure smooth coverage of these significant events, Parliament has called on media practitioners to secure accreditation ahead of time.
