President John Dramani Mahama has held a high-level meeting with the heads of Ghana’s security agencies as he prepares for a pivotal visit to Bawku. The meeting, which took place at the Jubilee House in Accra, comes amid ongoing tensions stemming from a decades-long ethnic conflict in the region.

Although the exact details of the President’s visit remain under wraps, it is widely seen as a significant move toward fulfilling his campaign promise to prioritize resolving the protracted conflict in Bawku.

Bawku has long been a hotspot of ethnic tensions, with disputes between the Kusasi and Mamprusi groups at the heart of the unrest. The root cause of the conflict largely revolves around land ownership disagreements, which have periodically flared into violent confrontations.

The most recent outbreak of violence has had devastating consequences for the community. Official reports reveal that at least 41 people have lost their lives in the latest clashes, with many others injured or forced to flee their homes.

The impact of the conflict has gone beyond physical harm, disrupting the daily lives of residents. Schools and businesses have been compelled to close intermittently, leaving the community in a state of fear and uncertainty.

As President Mahama prepares to visit the area, his efforts to address the situation are being closely watched, with many hoping for meaningful steps toward lasting peace in Bawku.
