President John Dramani Mahama has relieved Dr. Alexander Adusei of his duties as Director of the Keta Port, a project that has seen little to no progress since its announcement.

Dr. Adusei was appointed in 2019 under the administration of former President Nana Akufo-Addo to oversee the development of the port in the Volta Region. However, despite his appointment, the project has remained stalled, raising concerns among stakeholders.

While no official reason has been given for his dismissal, many believe it is linked to the lack of progress on the highly anticipated port.

The Akufo-Addo government formally designated Keta as the site for the port in 2018 through an Executive Instrument, with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) tasked with its development. However, years after the announcement, the project remains incomplete, frustrating residents and industry players in the region.

During the 2024 election campaign, Mahama strongly criticized the previous administration, calling the stalled project a missed opportunity. He lamented that despite eight years, “not even a single structure had been constructed for the port.”

In August 2024, six private investors expressed interest in partnering with the government to develop the port, but no concrete agreements have been finalized.
