President John Dramani Mahama has sent a strong message to his ministerial appointees, making it clear that their performance—not just holding office—will be the true measure of their value.
Addressing the opening of a four-day Executive Leadership Programme for Ministerial Appointees on Thursday, April 24, 2025, the President emphasized that the trust of the Ghanaian people must be respected with real action and visible results.
“You were not appointed to occupy space. You were appointed to solve problems,” President Mahama said. “The Ghanaian people expect us to deliver. And we must – not with excuses, but with results.”
He explained that the retreat, held in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), goes beyond a regular orientation. Instead, he said it marks the beginning of a new way of thinking and leading.
“We’re not here simply to orient ministers. We’re here to shape a collective mindset,” the President noted, urging his appointees to move away from outdated methods and adopt a fresh approach focused on meaningful public service.
“The business-as-usual approach will not work. Indeed, it is dead and we must bury it once and for all,” he added.
President Mahama also reminded ministers that ordinary Ghanaians are depending on them—especially young people, farmers, and entrepreneurs—who are all eager to see progress and improved living conditions.
“Our young people are tired of waiting interminably. Our farmers, our workers, our entrepreneurs… want to live in dignity and prosperity,” he said.
He ended with a warning that under his leadership, accountability would not be taken lightly. Ministers who fail to meet expectations will be replaced.
“Please remember, when any of us fall short, I will not hesitate to act,” he stated.
The leadership programme brings together government officials, business leaders, and development partners to build a united vision for strong and responsible governance under President Mahama’s administration.
