Charles Adu-Baah, a third-year political science student has been elected as president of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST).

He polled 11,225 votes to beat six other contestants in an election organised by the local electoral commission on Wednesday.

He succeeds Kelvin Sah, who served the role since April last year.

Adu-Baah will be the first leader of the SRC after last year’s violent protests that led to the closure of the university.

He will also represent the students at the university council.

Other executives

Meanwhile, Miriam Serwaa Akoto Ansah, was also elected General Secretary after polling 7,859 votes.

Maxwell Boakye Danso also beat Conrad Boakye Yiadom and David Sedodzi to be elected the Financial Secretary.

Esinam Sosu-Dees also beat her challenger Rebecca Ohemeng Appiah to become the next Women’s Commissioner.

The results were declared by KNUST Electoral Commissioner Akwasi Nti Awuah.

A total of 17,019 students voted though 17,046 were verified.

It is expected that all campus political activities are ceased forthwith after the election is over.

Advise

A representative of the local electoral commission warned that anybody found indulging in that act would be dealt with accordingly.

The representative also advised the new executives to work harder to promote and protect the welfare of students and safeguard the dignity of the University to grow to the highest level.
