The Quarm-LMI Consortium, appointed by the government to complete the long-delayed Saglemi Housing Project, has committed to finishing over 1,500 housing units within 400 days for sale to the public.

Kofi Adabor Ofori-Amanfo, Managing Director of the consortium, announced that the team would conduct structural integrity tests on the existing buildings to assess their stability and ensure they meet safety and quality standards.

In a media interview after a courtesy visit to the Ningo Traditional Council, Mr. Ofori-Amanfo emphasized the importance of re-engineering certain parts of the project. He explained that the work would address the impact of years of neglect and environmental challenges on the structures.

“Tentatively, we are looking at around 400 days to make sure that the whole place is completed for sale to people,” he said. “Currently, we inherited the shell structures. Some of them will go through structural integrity tests to make sure that we are not going to sell back to society something that might just break within time.”

He added, “You know, this development has been left for more than seven years. A lot of them have gone through bad weather conditions. Some areas had some flooding that is prone to the environment there. So we need to do a lot of re-engineering over there.”

Initially designed to address Ghana’s housing deficit, the Saglemi Housing Project has faced significant delays and controversies. The consortium’s commitment marks a critical step toward reviving the long-abandoned development.
