Four persons aspiring to contest the Manhyia South parliamentary seat on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have successfully filed their nominations ahead of the upcoming primaries slated for Sunday (14 July).
They are Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Akwasi Coker Gyambibi, and James Owusu Boakye. They will face the vetting committee today, Wednesday (10 July) before being placed on the ballot.
They were part of six aspirants who picked forms when nominations opened on Monday (8 July). Two others – Kwadwo Amankwaah Antwi, and Abdul Rahman Diallo – could not submit their documents at the close of nomination on Tuesday (9 July).
All four aspirants, according to the secretary at the constituency office, Haruna Alhassan, have presented their completed nomination forms, accompanied by banker’s drafts, curriculum vitae, photographs and receipts.
He added that they had so far paid their filing fees, saying “We have checked all the documents and none of them were at fault, they have all paid the full amount of the filing fee and met all the requirements to be able to qualify for the vetting’’.
“Per the guidelines, they will be placed on ballots if they are successful. Unsuccessful ones have the right to challenge their disqualification through a petition to the Appeals Committee for further action”, Haruna added.
He indicated that the party would put in place all the necessary measures to ensure that there was a level playing field for all.
The Manhyia South NPP primary has been triggered following the confirmation of the MP for the area Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh as Vice-Presidential candidate ahead of the 2024 elections.
Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’ was officially unveiled in the Ashanti Region setting the stage for the NPP to start a vigorous campaign in the coming days.
