President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has raised concerns about the ability of National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to effectively lead Ghana, warning that his return to power could threaten key national policies, including the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.

During a meeting with the chiefs and people of the North-East Region, President Akufo-Addo cautioned that voting for Mahama and the NDC in the upcoming December 7 elections might result in the cancellation of important initiatives, particularly the Free SHS policy. He referenced recent statements made by Mahama, suggesting that the former president may dismantle the program if he returns to office.

“Let’s ask him [Mahama], which is which? What should the Ghanaian people take as your real position? Because this chopping and changing, chopping and changing, is a very difficult thing for some of us to understand,” Akufo-Addo remarked, urging Mahama to clearly communicate his stance on the Free SHS initiative.

He continued by questioning Mahama’s consistency, saying, “What should we believe? Are you going to change it? Are you going to cancel it? Are you going to improve it? Because every time you open your mouth, you say a different thing.”

Akufo-Addo concluded by expressing doubt about Mahama’s trustworthiness, stating, “I don’t think a man who talks like that, who wants the supreme office of our country, is somebody who can be trusted.”
