Leader and founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Madam Akua Donkor wants the Supreme Court to dismiss any election-related case brought before it by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Madam Akua Donkor in a petition to the Apex Court argues that claims by the NDC presidential candidate John Mahama that the polls were rigged in favour of sitting President Akufo-Addo and the governing New Patriotic Party are untrue and must not be heard.
The GFP presidential candidate who placed fifth in the 2020 polls further maintained that the verdict as declared by the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission (EC) was a true reflection of the will of the people of Ghana.
She further commended the EC for the “good job” done as she described the NDC’s decision as an act of deceit.
It appears minor political parties are divided on the EC’s verdict.
While Akua Donkor wants Mr Mahama’s petition thrown out, founder of the United Front Party (UFP), Nana Agyenim Boateng wants the EC to overturn the verdict.
At a press conference in Kumasi, Nana Agyenim Boateng, who was disqualified from contesting the presidential election maintains his figures did not point to a win for President Akufo-Addo.
He wants the verdict overturned.
Mr Mahama on Wednesday announced on a Facebook post that he had officially filed a petition to challenge the 2020 presidential results that declared President Akufo-Addo winner with 51.59℅ of the total votes cast.
Mr Mahama, who polled 47.36℅ maintains the verdict was fabricated to favour the incumbent government.
