There is growing outrage among health workers at the Kumasi South Hospital following the appointment of Dr Oheneba Owusu Danso, a former CEO of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to the health facility.

Dr Danso’s appointment as a consultant – plastic reconstructive and hand surgeon –was contained in a widely circulated letter purportedly signed by Director General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye.

Dailymailgh.com gathers that the management of the Kumasi South Hospital is yet to be served with this official letter. But the leadership of the Health Service Workers’ Union at the Kumasi South Hospital is already kicking against this move describing it as needless.

Local Vice President of the HSWU at the Kumasi South Hospital Joshua Lawrence Nii Adu Arday is asking the Ghana Health Service to reconsider Dr Oheneba Danso’s appointment.

“Apparently we heard the news and saw it on social media about Dr Oheneba Owusu Danso who they are bringing to Kumasi South Hospital. If what we are hearing is the case, then I think we are not ready for him”, Arday told reporters at a news conference Tuesday (8 August).

“He’s a plastic surgeon, what is he coming to do here? There are people here who are capable of handling affairs here. For God’s sake, he’s 65 years old. What is he coming to do?” he quizzed.

The Association is not ruling out a strike even though it clarified that it was not against plans by its employer to post new staff.
