Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has inaugurated a five-member committee to review and improve the efficiency of the Axle Load Control Programme.

The committee includes representatives from National Security, Private Haulage Operators, the Ghana Highway Authority, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ghana Standards Authority. Their mandate is to identify systemic and operational challenges, investigate violations of regulatory provisions, assess the management of fines collected, and propose reforms to enhance the programme.

Overloading of heavy cargo vehicles has been a major factor in road pavement deterioration and increased traffic accidents. To tackle this issue, the Ministry is implementing reforms to address the programme’s operational challenges.

In a statement, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to improving road safety and reducing overloading to ensure that road pavements achieve their intended lifespan.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen road infrastructure, enhance transportation safety, and enforce compliance with regulations in the sector.
