A mobile money operator has been shot dead by suspected armed robbers in the Upper West Region.
The incident which happened on Thursday night at Jirapa, left another victim with gunshot wounds. He is said to be responding to treatment at an undisclosed health facility.
The deceased named as Baba Ene-wuure Emmanuel was attacked while on a motorbike with the surviving victim when the robbers demanded he handed over an undisclosed amount of money to them.
In an ensuing struggle, the robbers shot the deceased in the head killing him instantly. The surviving victim was also shot in the leg, Dailymailgh.com understands.
Police in the Upper West Region which has confirmed the incident said the robbers bolted with the undisclosed amount of money amid firing of gunshots.
The incident comes after the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Amidu Issahaku Chinnia, was attacked by unknown armed gang.
Director in charge of Public Affairs at the Upper West Regional Police Command, Inspector Gideon Boateng said investigations have begun into the separate incidents.
“We are investigating an incident of robbery and murder at Jirapa; our men have been deployed to the ground for information. The problem is that the command has been advising residents to seek police protection whenever they carry huge amounts on them but they ignore. We intend to intensify patrols going forward,” the police spokesperson said.
He, however, appealed to members of the public to provide credible information to arrest the culprits.
